Accommodation
Just two miles inland from the picturesque harbour villages of Mousehole and Newlyn, this recently converted, semi-detached stone barn is set within the grounds of the owner’s home and cattery in the quiet little hamlet of Chyenhal. Offering a rural retreat for visitors wishing to get away from it all, yet only a 5 minute drive from the coast, The Owls House provides warm and cosy accommodation furnished to a high standard with double glazing and central heating.
Set to one side of a country lane, the property is entered from the driveway where there is parking for two cars and a step leads up to the front door which opens directly into an attractive kitchen with a solid oak floor that continues throughout. Beautifully presented with two Velux windows and a ceiling rising to the apex of the roof with exposed cross beams, there is a pleasant dining suite and smartly fitted kitchen units.
An inner hallway and two steps lead down to a bathroom W.C. with hand basin and shower over the bath and two lovely bedrooms with a standard double and 4ft double bed respectively, the former with an en-suite W.C. and tiny basin.
Carpeted stairs lead up from the hall to a delightful galleried sitting room on the first floor with comfortable leather lounge seating arranged before a wood burning stove and dual aspect views of the surrounding countryside. To complete the accommodation, leading off in one corner of the lounge is a single bedroom with an en-suite shower room W.C. with hand basin.
There is also an external laundry room that houses the freezer. Fronted by a gravel terrace, half a dozen steps lead up to a secluded garden with summer house and views over the adjoining fields adjacent to the owners hoop greenhouse; visitors are also welcome to make use of the owner’s large meadow.
The Kings Arms at Paul is one of West Cornwall's most atmospheric pubs, 1.5 miles, and for a wider selection of amenities, Newlyn is 2 miles with local shops, pubs, galleries and a busy fish market. Penzance is a 10 minute drive where there is a good choice of shops, supermarkets, Cornwall’s only promenade, and regular ferry services to the Isles of Scilly.
Trewidden, Trereife and Trengwainton Gardens are less than 3 miles respectively and the immediate area abounds in country walks and bridal ways with an abundance of birds and wildlife. It is also an excellent base for exploring West Cornwall with St Michael's Mount at Marazion, Porthcurno home to the Minack Theatre and the surfing beach at Sennen Cove all less than 10 miles away. Boating trips for sailing, sight-seeing and fishing are available from Penzance, St Ives and Porthleven.
